Carmelo Anthony thinks he has plenty of good basketball left. In fact, he plans to play at least another seven seasons. "I think I'm in the prime of my career right now. I have years to go in this league," Anthony told CNBC. "I see guys playing 20 years. That's a goal of mine — to play 20 NBA seasons." Anthony, 31, would be just the sixth player in NBA history to reach the 20-season mark. Robert Parish, Kevin Willis, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar have also played at least 20 seasons.

Byron Scott didn't think much of Kristaps Porzingis after the rookie's pre-draft workout with the Lakers. "We had him in at (a) workout, and he wasn't in great shape at that particular time, and you just didn't see all this," the ex-Lakers coach said on the Dan Patrick Show last week. "You knew the kid would be good, but you thought he'd be good in three or four years. You didn't think he'd be good this year, this early…. You just didn't get a chance to see everything he was capable of doing. Until the season started and we saw him in the Summer League, then I said, ‘Whoa, this kid is going to be pretty good.'" The Lakers ended up taking D'Angelo Russell and, thankfully for Phil Jackson, Porzingis was available to the Knicks with the fourth pick.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who famously turned down Phil Jackson and the Knicks to coach in Golden State, fully endorses the idea of hiring Jeff Hornacek. "I thought he did a phenomenal job in Phoenix," Kerr said Saturday, according to the New York Post. "That first year he got them to within a game of the playoffs in a loaded conference in a year when they were supposed to be a high lottery team…. This guy has a great knowledge of the game, great feel, and he's a really top-notch human being. I thought he was a great choice."

Jerian Grant is one Knicks who may benefit under Jeff Hornacek. Here's why: If Hornacek is permitted to tweak the triangle offense, it's fair to assume that he'll implement more pick and roll play. And if that's the case, Grant could thrive. The guard ranked in the 72nd percentile nationally in points per play as the pick-and-roll ball handler in his final season at Notre Dame, per Synergy Sports. When the defense committed to Grant on the pick-and-roll, good things happened. Notre Dame scored an average of 1.1 points per play in those situations, which ranked in the 90th percentile in the country. The Knicks, of course, didn't run much pick and roll last season. But if that changes under Hornacek, Grant could thrive.

Interestingly, Carmelo Anthony said he didn't share his opinion on the coaching search with Phil Jackson before Jeff Hornacek was offered the job. "Whatever Phil did, he did on his own," Anthony said in an interview Saturday with WNBC-TV's Bruce Beck. Anthony said several times in recent weeks that he hoped to share his thoughts on the team's next coach with Jackson and Knicks. Though he certainly didn't seem upset about the Hornacek hire in his interview Saturday.

Carmelo Anthony told WNBC-TV's Bruce Beck that he believes Jeff Hornacek gives the Knicks a chance to turn things around. The club has missed the playoffs in each of the past three seasons. "It sets the stage for us to do that," Anthony said Saturday. "[It's a] new opportunity, something new to play with, something fresh, a clean plate. So hopefully we can build off of this momentum."

Melo: Hornacek's fast offense 'a new opportunity'

Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony said he is "definitely" looking forward to playing in the up-tempo offense of Jeff Hornacek, who is expected to be the team's next head coach.

Carmelo Anthony tells WNBC-TV's Bruce Beck that he's looking forward to playing up tempo under Jeff Hornacek. "Everybody knows he likes to play up tempo, likes to get out in transition, speed the game up a lot," Anthony said in an interview Saturday. "So from that standpoint I'll definitely be looking forward to that."

Jeff Hornacek's presence at the Knicks facility, as reported by ESPN, suggests a deal is close between the club and the coach. The NY Daily News reports an agreement in principle between Hornacek & the Knicks. While talks have begun between Hornacek and the Knicks, nothing is finalized, sources say.

Will be tall task for Hornacek in NY

Jeff Hornacek will be taking over a Knicks team that has outperformed only a few in the NBA during the last two seasons and only the 76ers in the Eastern Conference.

Seven coaches hired, three to go

The reported hiring of Jeff Hornacek by the Knicks would leave three NBA teams still seeking to name new head coaches for the 2016-17 season. That's assuming no other positions come open anytime soon.
