The Thunder's sales pitch to Kevin Durant has always been sustainable winning. Victor Oladipo & Domantas Sabonis are both under contract beyond next year, unlike Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka. OKC will miss Ibaka's defense, but it's possible that Durant's defensive prowess during the playoffs made Ibaka a little more expendable. OKC is loaded if Durant returns and won't vanish if Durant and/or Westbrook leave.
Royce Young ESPN Staff Writer
The Thunder making the move for Oladipo, Ilyasova and Sabonis is not one of them bracing for a potential Durant exit, but one they feel is strengthening their position to re-sign him even more. They get younger, and deeper, and with the emergence of Steven Adams feel confident about filling the gap Ibaka leaves behind.
