Raptors G DeMar DeRozan on heading into free agency: "That's always been mutual (my feelings for Toronto). Since I've been there, the level of respect that I have for that team and that organization and that whole country and vice versa. It's my first time going into this -- really being a free agent and understanding how things work -- so I'm just taking it day by day, honestly. And once Friday (July 1) comes I'll have a different outlook on everything. But Friday and this weekend will say a lot."

Pascal Siakam, picked 27th by the Raptors, is the first player drafted out of New Mexico State since Randy Brown in 1991. The last NMSU player drafted in the top 30 was Sam Lacey, who went 5th overall in 1970.
What you need to know about Siakam
"His rebounding ability is elite. He plays hard and is both a great athlete and physical. He's old for his class and his basketball IQ can be a little low." -- NBA Insider Chad Ford. Stats, analysis, projections on Siakam

The Raptors select New Mexico's Pascal Siakam with the No. 27 pick. Clearly that Skal info to the Raptors was a smoke screen. Like Siakam. He's bouncy. Plays hard. Good shot blocker. A bit raw. But has the toughness Masai Ujiri likes.

The Raptors may have gotten the safest player in the draft. Jakob Poeltl may not have the upside of other top prospects, but he has the lowest bust chance (16%) of any player in the last 5 draft classes, according to our projections.
What you need to know about Jakob Poeltl
"Poeltl is the best center prospect in the draft. ... He's very skilled, but his lack of strength and questions about his ability to stretch the floor limit teams' enthusiasm." -- NBA Insider Chad Ford. Stats, analysis, projections on Poeltl
Chad Ford ESPN Senior Writer
The Raptors select Utah C Jakob Poeltl at No. 9. Bit surprised Masai went conventional here. The thinking a few hours before the draft was Skal Labissiere here. Totally opposite ends of the spectrum. Skal all upside. Poeltl one of the safest picks in the draft, but not huge upside.
LeBron James made it official Thursday, saying he will not play in this summer's Olympics. Carmelo Anthony, DeAndre Jordan, Jimmy Butler and Klay Thompson are among the players who will play.
