Mario Chalmers still undecided on team

MIAMI -- Miami Heat free agent Mario Chalmers made his first appearance at team workouts on Thursday, but he hasn't made a decision yet on where he would sign.

Chalmers said his presence at the Heat's arena on Thursday does not indicate his free-agency leanings. He said he would sit down with his agent later in the day and discuss his options, which he said include "a couple of offers" from other NBA teams.

Chalmers expected he would make and announce his decision on Friday, the first official day of free agency. He is a restricted free agent, which gives the Heat three days to match any outside offers.

Chalmers said he has spoken "a little bit" with Heat president Pat Riley about his desire to return .

The Heat have already extended Chalmers a one-year qualifying offer worth $1.1 million, which would keep him in Miami this season and allow him to be a restricted free agent in 2012.

But Chalmers could reject that offer in favor of a possible multiyear deal in Miami or elsewhere.

"It's in their hands," Chalmers said. "Let's see what they do with it."

The 25-year-old point guard started for the Heat in Game 6 of the NBA Finals and hopes his strong performance late in the playoffs will land him a starting job this season.

Where would that starting job be? Chalmers wouldn't say. The only pure point guard on the Heat's roster is Norris Cole, who the Heat drafted in the first-round of June's draft.

Chalmers started 28 games for the Heat last season, his third in the NBA, averaging 6.4 points and 2.5 assists per game.

Thursday was a busy day for Riley and the Heat. Free agent Shane Battier announced on Twitter on Thursday morning that he would sign with the team, and sources confirmed that free agent center Eddy Curry had also decided to join the 2011-12 Eastern Conference champions.

Feels like the Thunder have control of this game now. Spurs need to find a way to change that.
