J.C. Deacon to coach Gators golf

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida has hired former Canadian Tour player J.C. Deacon as its men's golf coach.

Deacon served as an assistant at UNLV the past four seasons. He replaces Buddy Alexander, who retired in April after 27 seasons, two national championships (1993, 2001) and eight Southeastern Conference titles.

Deacon also played for UNLV (2001-05) and helped the Rebels win the Mountain West title in 2002. He advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur in 2005.
