Ricky Oropesa

First base | USC

Oropesa comes equipped with the classic first baseman tool kit. He's tall and powerfully built at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds and possesses a quick, powerful swing that helped him lead two leagues in home runs in 2010. The lefty's 20 homers paced the Pac-10, and he then added seven more with a wood bat in the Cape Cod League. The former pitcher is also a solid defender with a strong arm, but needs to improve his pitch recognition after striking out in 23 percent of his college at-bats and leading the Cape in that category as well. More frequent connections should help Oropesa build on his 33 career homers and prove to be one of the few players immune to the power outage expected following the NCAA's new bat regulations.
