Boeker needs three sets to win in second round

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Top-seeded Matais Boeker of Georgia beat Wake Forest's David Loewenthal 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 Thursday in the second round of the NCAA tennis championships.

Boeker will face Thomas Schneiter of Nevada-Las Vegas on Friday. Schneiter beat UCLA's Tobias Clemens 6-4, 6-3.

Third-seeded Harsh Mankad of Minnesota also advanced, beating Arkansas' Oggie Kolev 6-3, 6-2.

Only one of the six remaining top eight seeds lost Thursday. Southern California's Nick Rainey beating eighth-seeded Benjamin Becker of Baylor 6-2, 6-1.

In first-round doubles action, Tulane's Michael Kogan and Victor Romero upset top-seeded Marcin Matkowski and Jean-Julien Rojer of UCLA 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4.
