COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Top-seeded Matais Boeker of Georgia beat Southern California's Nick Rainey 7-5, 6-2 on Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA tennis championships. Boeker, a junior from Argentina, will face Stanford's David Martin, a 7-6 (3), 6-2 winner over California's John Fruttero. In the other quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Jesse Witten of Kentucky beat San Diego State's Oliver Maiberger 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, and Stanford's Ryan Haviland defeated Georgia's Brandon Wagner 6-2, 6-1. ``I'm going to try my hardest to prevent an all-Stanford final,'' Boeker said. ``Each school wants its players to be in the final. If they both reach the final, more credit to them.'' Boeker broke Rainey at 5-5 and held serve to take the first set. ``Sometimes you can't tell how hard points are by the score,'' Boeker said. ``He came out a little more energized that I did at the beginning and went up a break. Luckily, I was able to get the break right back. I tried to pump myself up. He was going for his shots and I was playing more passive. I told myself I had to move my feet more and get pumped up.''
