Kunitz, LeNeveu, Sejna in final running for award

ESPN.com news services

Chris Kunitz of Ferris State, who signed a two-year contract with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Tuesday, was named as one of three finalists for the Hobey Baker Award.

Cornell goaltender Dave LeNeveu and Colorado College forward Peter Sejna also were named Wednesday as finalists. The Hobey Baker Award honors the best player in college hockey.

Kunitz had 35 goals and 44 assists in only 42 games and led Ferris State to a school-record 31 victories this season.

LeNeveu posted the best goals-against average in college hockey history (1.44) and has guided Cornell to a date in the NCAA Frozen Four next week. Selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in last year's NHL draft, he posted a 28-2-1 record and broke several of the school records held by former Montreal Canadiens goalie and Hall of Famer Ken Dryden.

LeNeveu's nine shutouts were three more than the record previously held by Dryden and one short of the NCAA record set by Ryan Miller in 2001. Dryden, now the Toronto Maple Leafs' executive vice president, played for Cornell in the late 1960s before joining the Canadiens, establishing himself as one of the NHL's top goalies.

A native of Slovakia, Sejna had 36 goals and 46 assists and recorded a point in all but one of Colorado College's 42 games.

The Hobey Baker winner will be announced April 11 at the Frozen Four in Buffalo.

Information from The Associated Press and SportsTicker was used in this report.
