Ex-Oklahoma State AD, coach, athlete Gass dies

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Floyd Gass, who played basketball and football at Oklahoma State and later returned as the school's football coach and athletic director, has died at age 79.

Gass graduated from then-Oklahoma A&M in 1951 and was the Oklahoma State football coach from 1969-71.

The Hominy native was Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1969 and
served as the Oklahoma State athletic director until 1978. One of
his hires was Mike Holder, the current OSU athletic director.

After graduating from college, Gass coached high school sports
at Cherokee and Frederick before moving to Austin College in
Sherman, Texas where he spent 15 years.

He was hired in 1969 as the OSU football coach. He went 13-18-1
in his three years as coach before becoming athletic director.
