Rodriguez rallies Rice in Houston Regional

HOUSTON -- Josh Rodriguez's single in the ninth inning
capped top-seeded Rice's rally from a four-run deficit in a 6-5
victory over upset-minded Prairie View A&M at the Houston Regional
on Friday.
Rice (51-10) loaded the bases with no outs against Prairie View
left-hander Joshua Terrell before Rodriguez drove a pitch over the
head of left fielder Brandon Kendricks.
Prairie View (33-21), the lowest seed in the four-team regional,
took a 5-1 lead in the third inning, keyed by Arthur Christal's
three-run home run.
Brian Friday answered for Rice with a two-run homer in the
bottom of the third, and the Owls, seeded second nationally in the
tournament, pulled even on Aaron Luna's two-run homer off Terrell
in the eighth.
Leading 5-3 in the top of the eighth, the Panthers couldn't
score after loading the bases with no outs. Leadoff hitter Wilford
White grounded into a double play when he was called out for
running out of the baseline. Rice's throw to first on the play was
wild, but by rule the runners were not allowed to advance. Rice
