Oregon State pulls out win against Wright State

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Oregon State senior Chris Kunda's
two-run, two-out double in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday
night helped the Beavers to a 5-3 win against Wright State in the
opening round of the NCAA Corvallis Regional.
Oregon State squandered a 3-0 lead after four innings in front
of 2,587 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Wright State's Amin Abusaleh made it 3-2 on a two-out
bases-loaded single in the fifth. The Raiders added the tying run
in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Justin Parker.
Oregon State's Cole Gillespie, the Pacific-10 Conference player
of the year, opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first,
his 12th of the season.
The Beavers got two more in the fourth on a bases-loaded single
by Darwin Barney.
From there, though, the Beavers had just one runner on base
until the eighth, when Tyler Graham was hit by a pitch with two
Teammate Scott Santschi followed with a walk. Kunda's double
found a gap in left-center field that allowed Graham and Santschi
to score. The Beavers nearly had another run on a single by Barney,
but Kunda was thrown out trying to score on the play.
Oregon State's Barney, Kunda and John Wallace all finished with
two hits. Wright State's Aaron Garcia and Brian Shoup also had two
Oregon State's Eddie Kunz pitched two innings of relief to take
the win, improving to 5-1 on the season. Oregon State (40-14)
advances to play Kansas at 6 p.m. Saturday. Wright State (30-26)
plays Hawaii at 1 p.m. Saturday in a loser-out game. Kansas
defeated Hawaii in an earlier game Friday.
