BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Dan Lawson scored at 14:10 of the second overtime to give Vermont a 3-2 victory over Air Force on Saturday night in the NCAA East Regional final.
Lawson beat goalie Andrew Volkening with a hard shot from the blue line that went through the net. After a lengthy video review, the referees ruled it a goal.
Vermont (22-11-5) advanced to the Frozen Four for the second time in school history, joining the 1996 team. In the national semifinals April 9 in Washington, the Catamounts will face the Boston University-New Hampshire winner Sunday in the Northeast Region
Lawson gave Vermont a 2-1 lead at 9:29 of the third period with a slap shot from the right point, but Air Force's Sean Bertsch tied it 1:49 later. Paul Weisgarber opened the scoring for Air Force (28-11-2), and Josh Burrows tied it for Vermont early in the third.
Vermont goalie Rob Madore made 46 saves.
