BOX SCORE
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Vincent Yarbrough and his Tennessee
teammates need to read Rule 7, Section 1 of the NCAA rulebook.
Yarbrough and others had an up-close look at Joe Johnson's
rebound basket that put Arkansas ahead to stay in overtime
Wednesday night.

"The ball rolled on the top of the backboard and I thought that
was out of bounds," Yarbrough said after the Razorbacks beat his Vols 82-77. "We looked up. (Ron) Slay turned and was
going the other way. He thought the ball was out."
The rulebook says, "The ball is out of bounds if it passes over
the backboard from any direction."
While Yarbrough and Slay were watching, Johnson was rebounding.
His put-back, seconds after he made a soft jumper along the
baseline, gave Arkansas (14-7, 5-4 SEC) a 76-73 lead with 1:18 to
play. Yarbrough got tangled up driving the lane on the Vols' next
possession and Carl Baker expanded the lead to five with two free
throws.
Tennessee (18-5, 5-4) scored quickly, but T.J. Cleveland
clinched it with two more free throws for a 80-75 lead with 18
seconds to play.
There were 12 ties and 12 lead changes in the second half.
Tennessee (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 10 AP) led by five early in the second half, but neither team
led by more than three for the final 17 minutes.
The loss was the Vols' fourth straight on the road. Arkansas has
won five of its last six and is above .500 in the SEC for the first
time this year.
"Each week, we talk about needing something and each game gets
bigger unless you're in front, and we're not in front," said
Arkansas coach Nolan Richardson. "Joe did a great job. He's
beginning to play ... with more aggressiveness than he did three
weeks ago. He made some big plays down the stretch."
Johnson scored 20 points and had a career-high 14 rebounds.
Jannero Pargo scored 17 and Baker added 17. Isiah Victor led the
Vols with 25 points and Jon Higgins had 16.
Tennessee coach Jerry Green said Baker surprised him, but that
shooting 2-of-12 in overtime was too much to overcome.
To start the overtime, Tennessee's Hathaway missed the front end
of a 1-and-1, but Yarbrough beat Baker for the rebound and scored.
Cleveland quickly tied it with two free throws. Victor gave
Tennessee its last lead, 73-72, with one of two free throws.
Johnson's go-ahead basket came after Terrence Woods missed a 3.
Woods also misfired on a 3-point attempt with 31 seconds left in
regulation. Johnson had a shot with less than 10 seconds and
Tennessee rejected two attempts by Baker.
Both teams made big shots in the second half.
Woods' important 3 after a timeout tied it at 54. Moments later,
Higgins' 3 from in front of his own bench gave Tennessee a 59-56
lead.
Cleveland was way short on a 3, but was good seconds later for a
59-59 tie. Higgins wound up with the long rebound on a missed 3 and
his floater broke the tie. Pargo got nailed for a five-second call
and missed a tough layup, but Larry Satchell blocked Jenis
Grindstaff's shot and Cleveland threw a 70-foot pass to Teddy
Gipson for a layup and a 64-63 Arkansas lead.
Both teams missed 3s before Ron Slay's put back gave Tennessee a
67-66 lead. Victor missed the front end of a one and one, but Baker
converted in the same situation for a 68-67 Arkansas lead.
Higgins' 3 gave Tennessee a 70-68 lead with 1:39 to play, but
Alonzo Lane wheeled across the lane and his left-handed toss banked
home for a tie 11 seconds later.
"To win games like this, somebody has to make plays,"
Richardson said. "Lane and Joe made plays."
