RECAP | BOX SCORE

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ After leading Oklahoma State back from a 14-point second-half deficit against Texas Saturday, Maurice Baker fouled out in overtime _ and his team was lost without him.

Texas (19-7, 8-4) outscored the Cowboys 13-2 in the extra period, making 9-of-12 free throws and rejecting several attempted Cowboy baskets in an 80-69 win.

Baker, who tied the game in regulation at 67-67 on a layup with 5.2 seconds left, sat on the bench helplessly.

"It seems like after he goes out, they just kind of shut down," Texas guard Darren Kelly said. "They're scrambling for someone to try to make a play for them."

Nobody did.

Baker finished with nine rebounds and 24 points _ 19 of them in the second half _ but Oklahoma State (15-7, 6-5) could not outlast a physical Texas team led by Chris Owens, who had 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Owens had several backboard-rattling dunks in the first half, where he dominated the Cowboys inside.

"It was pretty physical, but I think we initiated the physical play," Owens said. "It just stayed like that the whole game."

But Owens was short on finesse in the final stretch, missing 5-of-6 free throw attempts in the final 3:27 of regulation.

It allowed Baker and the Cowboys back into the game.

After Owens missed two free throws, Baker ducked a defender and hit a 3-pointer from the corner, giving OSU its first lead of the second half at 63-62 with 2:27 left.

Victor Williams added to the lead with a layup at 1:43 left, before the Longhorns' Kelly hit a jumper and two free throws for a 66-65 Texas lead. Fredie Williams had a free throw with 10.7 seconds left for a 67-65 lead before Baker tied the game.

Texas coach Rick Barnes said the loss of Baker in overtime seemed to limit OSU.

"He's the kind of guy who's thinking about playing while he sleeps," Barnes said. "When you lose a guy like that, it'd hurt any team. I wish he would have fouled out in the first half."

OSU's Fredrick Jonzen, who averaged 15.7 points per game coming in, scored just 7 against Texas and was shackled throughout the game.

"We respected him a lot coming in," Barnes said of Jonzen. "Wherever he was, we just really tried to give him a lot of attention."

It was the first home loss of the season for OSU, which was outrebounded by Texas 52-38.

Texas led 42-34 after a first half that saw the Cowboys jump out to a 15-8 lead. But Texas went on a 12-2 run capped by a 3-pointer by Maurice Evans at the 9:33 mark for a 20-17 Longhorn lead. OSU would not lead again in the half.

OSU made just 5-of-13 free throws in the first half.

Victor Williams added 18 points for the Cowboys.

Maurice Evans chipped in 15 points for Texas, while Kelly had 13.

OSU was hoping to enhance its chances for a berth in the NCAA Tournament with a win over Texas, but OSU's Melvin Sanders said the team has to buckle down for its final four games before the Big 12 Tournament.

"I think that we will be all right. We just need to keep practicing hard and look past this," Sanders said.
