LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Rodney White scored 22 points
as third-seeded Charlotte moved into the championship game of
the Conference USA tournament with a 75-63 victory over Southern
Mississippi. Charlotte (20-10) has won four straight and will face Cincinnati in Saturday's championship game, a rematch of the 1999 title contest. The 49ers broke open a tight game with a 12-3 run over a three-minute span for a 65-53 lead with just over five minutes remaining. Diego Guevara scored 19 points, including four 3-pointers, as Charlotte made 7-of-19 from beyond the arc. Demon Brown had 10 points off the bench for the 49ers, who owned a 39-29 rebounding edge. The second-seeded Golden Eagles could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way. Southern Mississippi (22-8) saw its season-high six-game winning streak come to an end. It was led by David Wall, who scored 11 of his 18 points in the first half. Vandarel Jones and Mel Cauthen each added 12. Wall had three 3-pointers but Southern Mississippi made just 7-of-28 from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles must now hope for an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. They have a strong case, with a victory over Arkansas and a two-point loss to Iowa State to their credit. Southern Miss went 11-5 in conference play. The 49ers have won eight of their last nine.
