Fred Hoiberg to get new pacemaker

Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg, who had career-ending, open-heart surgery in 2005, is in the Mayo Clinic for surgery to replace his pacemaker, he confirmed via text to ESPN.com.

A month after finishing up his first season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Hoiberg learned he had an aortic root aneurysm. During surgery, a rare complication required that doctors insert a pacemaker.

That pacemaker, Hoiberg said via text, started to act up over the weekend.
