Oregon State gives coach John five-year extension

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Oregon State basketball coach Jay John has been awarded a five-year contract extension, athletic director Bob De Carolis said.

John is in his fourth year with the Beavers. Last season, Oregon State finished 17-15 overall and 8-10 in the Pac-10. It was the team's first winning season since 1989-90.

The team beat UCLA in the Pac-10 tournament for its first postseason victory since 1988-89.
