Wide-open race for No. 1 seeds
Looking at tournament odds for top seeds, bubble teams
Welcome back to the expanded edition of Joe Lunardi's Rundown. Since the start of February, this series has featured tournament odds, an element that will take you deeper into Bracketology. Bracketology provides a snapshot of how the bracket looks on a specific day, but, through the use of Lunardi's extensive database of previous seasons, tournament odds tell you how the bracket is likely to look come Selection Sunday.
Top line report
So you want to be a No. 1 seed? Or the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament? Then don't go to the polls. Or, more accurately, don't look to be ranked No. 1 in the country.
Sorry, Indiana, that's you (again).
The Hoosiers have been here before. They began the year in the nation's top spot, only to lose that epic overtime game to Butler in mid-December.
Then it was Duke's turn. The Blue Devils held on to No. 1 overall through the holidays and into the first few weeks of ACC play. Then the Blue Devils lost their first two true road games, at NC State and Miami, leading many to think Coach K's guys had perhaps peaked too early.
