Bracket Projection: San Diego State
No one outworks the Aztecs, but is it enough to advance?
The San Diego State Aztecs have reached their fourth straight NCAA tournament, by far the most successful run in school history. Perhaps it's the players he's recruited recently or the philosophy he's instilled in them, but head coach Steve Fisher now has a program built on toughness. It's been fairly successful, but can it do bigger things on the game's biggest stage?
ESPN Insider has your answers, as Joe Lunardi has enlisted a team of Bracketologists to compile advanced metrics, key scouting intel and best- and worst-case tournament scenarios for all 68 teams, in order to help you make smart picks in your bracket. Plus, as Lunardi fills out his bracket, he'll give you his prediction on how each team will fare.
The Aztecs are one of several Mountain West teams that did their best work at home. That kind of profile always worries me come tournament time, except that Oklahoma's road record is a game worse. So with both teams trekking all the way to Philly for the second round, I'll go with the defensively sound Aztecs to advance and meet Georgetown.
Best wins: New Mexico, UCLA, Colorado State
Worst losses: at Wyoming, at Air Force
