It helps to enter a new conference with the same old star. Forward Doug McDermott should answer the increased competition of the new Big East and still emerge as a national player of the year candidate. Creighton got a big boost when guard Grant Gibbs, who twice led the Missouri Valley in assists, was approved for a sixth year of eligibility. Sharpshooter Ethan Wragge could finish second in school history to only Kyle Korver in 3-pointers. The Bluejays return four starters, but for them to soar to the top of the Big East perch, the frontcourt has to find a defensive presence to replace Greg Echenique. -- C.L. Brown
