COLUMBIA, S.C. South Carolina sophomore guard Travis
Kraft will leave the Gamecocks to play closer to his family in
North Dakota, coach Dave Odom said Saturday.
"It is apparent to me that his decision was made prior to my
arrival at South Carolina," said Odom, who was hired on Tuesday
after a four-week search. "I respect his family's wishes and we
will do everything we can to aid in his transfer to another
program."
There were rumors Kraft and other players would possibly
transfer after Eddie Fogler resigned in March, but Odom said no
other players had come to him to talk about transferring.
Kraft was a reliable shooter for the Gamecocks. His stellar
moment this season came when his 25-foot 3-pointer swished through
at the buzzer in South Carolina's 69-68 upset of Florida.
But a foot injury in November limited Kraft to 33 minutes in
four games, averaging 2.5 points. He sat out the rest of the season
to apply for redshirt status to regain his sophomore eligibility.
Tim and Barb Kraft missed their son's freshman year when he
played in 25 games, averaging 3.8 points and 0.9 rebounds. But they
packed up their winter clothes and two youngest children in
Mayville, N.D., and moved 1,600 miles to Columbia last summer to
sit in the stands for Kraft's sophomore year. Send this story to a friend | Most sent stories
