LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky officials were told by the family of Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino on Thursday that Pitino's brother-in-law, William Minardi, is still missing in New York after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The family issued the information because there was an erroneous report on a web site listing Minardi as a survivor in critical condition. The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Thursday that Bill Minardi, the brother of Pitino's wife, Joanne, worked as a bond broker on the 105th floor of the north tower. The Web site wtc.ny.com, which incorrectly listed Minardi as a surviver in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon, is continually updated. "He's still missing," Joe Iracane, a Pitino family friend who lives in Owensboro, Ky. told the newspaper on Wednesday. "We're still hoping for the best, hoping for hope." Pitino, formerly the coach at Kentucky, could not be reached for comment. Earlier this year, Joanne Pitino's sister's husband was hit by a New York City taxi and killed. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. |
