Gonzaga's Dan Dickau is among 20 men named as finalists Monday for the Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award. Dickau averages 20.6 points and five rebounds per game to lead Gonzaga (22-3), which has climbed all the way to No. 8 in the nation. The Zags have a seven-game winning streak heading into their final home games in Spokane -- Thursday against Loyola Marymount and Saturday against West Coast Conference-leading Pepperdine. Top-ranked Duke has three finalists in Carlos Boozer, Mike Dunleavy and Jason Williams, who many expect to be the top pick in next June's NBA Draft. Other finalists for the men's award are: Maryland's Lonny Baxter and Juan Dixon; Nick Collison and Drew Gooden of Kansas; Troy Bell, Boston College; Caron Butler, Connecticut; Sam Clancy, Southern Cal; Jason Gardner, Arizona; Casey Jacobsen, Stanford; Jared Jeffries, Indiana; Jason Kapono, UCLA; Steve Logan, Cincinnati; Tayshaun Prince, Kentucky; Kareem Rush, Missouri; Frank Williams, Illinois; David West, Xavier. The winners of the Naismith awards will be honored in Atlanta on April 5th. |
