Sumpter tore ACL in second round of tournament

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova forward Curtis Sumpter underwent
surgery Friday to repair a ligament in his left knee that he tore
during the NCAA Tournament.

"Everything looked solid at the conclusion of the surgery,"
said Dr. Rob Good, the team's orthopedic surgeon.

Sumpter, a second-team All-Big East selection this season, tore
his ACL in the Wildcats' 76-65 second-round win over Florida and
missed the rest of the tournament, including a 67-66 loss to
eventual champion North Carolina in the regional semifinals.

Sumpter, a junior who averaged 15.3 points and led the team in
rebounding with a 7.2 average, will wear a brace for the next month
and begin his rehabilitation immediately.
