EL PASO, Texas -- The body of Hall of Fame basketball coach
Don Haskins will lie in state on Tuesday afternoon in the Texas-El
Paso basketball arena named for him.
The viewing is scheduled for noon-8 p.m. A memorial service is
scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Thursday at the same Don Haskins Center.
The retired Miners coach Haskins died Sunday afternoon at his El
Paso home after a battle with congestive heart failure. He was 78.
The longtime UTEP coach is credited with helping break color
barriers in college sports in 1966 when he used five black starters
to win a national basketball title for what was then Texas Western.
