Seven rows collapse while Pit rocks

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Seven rows of bench seating at The Pit collapsed during New Mexico's 86-77 win over No. 9 BYU on Saturday but no injuries were reported.

The broken benches were located near the arena floor in the student section, where fans usually stand for the duration of games.

New Mexico facilities director Scott Dotson says the benches apparently collapsed because students were jumping on them. Dotson says the damage wasn't discovered until after students swarmed the floor in celebration at the final horn.

There was no immediate estimate on the cost of repairs.
