With 17 teams in the ESPN/USA Today men's college basketball coaches' poll and seven in the top 10 losing at least one game in the past week, there were bound to be changes up and down the Top 25.
Syracuse and Villanova, both in last week's top 10, plunged down the rankings in the poll released Monday. Kansas and Texas both rose five spots, to Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Pittsburgh, Duke and previously unbeaten San Diego State all slipped two spots after losses, while Notre Dame and Purdue climbed into the top 10.
The only constant at the top? Ohio State is still undefeated and still No. 1. The Buckeyes (22-0) were a unanimous choice, receiving all 31 first-place votes from the poll's panel of Division I coaches. The Buckeyes face Michigan and No. 20 Minnesota in Big Ten play this week.
Kansas (20-1) is followed by Texas -- despite the fact the Longhorns beat the Jayhawks in Lawrence on Jan. 22. Both teams have games against Top 25 rivals this week, with Kansas taking on No. 15 Missouri and Texas playing No. 16 Texas A&M on Monday night on ESPN.
Pittsburgh fell to fourth after slipping past Rutgers and losing to Notre Dame, which has surged six spots to No. 8 with wins in its past three games.
No. 5 Duke's shocking 15-point loss at unranked St. John's cost the Blue Devils two spots, while San Diego State's first loss of the season, at No. 9 BYU, knocked the Aztecs two spots to No. 6.
UConn is seventh, with Notre Dame, BYU and Purdue rounding out the top 10.
The Huskies host No. 17 Syracuse on Wednesday night on ESPN with a chance to add to their Big East rivals' current misery. The Orange, stuck in a four-game losing streak, nosedived seven spots to No. 17 in the poll after an upset home loss to Seton Hall and a road loss at Marquette.
Villanova also went tumbling, falling five places to No. 12 following losses to Providence and No. 14 Georgetown.
The Hoyas and No. 13 Louisville won both of their games last week and moved up the poll six places each. They'll face each other Monday night on ESPN.
Purdue, which split its results last week with a loss to Ohio State and a win over Minnesota, plays No. 18 Wisconsin on Tuesday night, also on ESPN.
Arizona entered the poll at No. 22, while former No. 24 Saint Mary's fell out. Michigan State, ranked No. 2 in the preseason, fell out of the Top 25 last week and disappeared entirely Monday by not receiving votes.
