Aleksejs Rostov led the Hilltoppers (10-7, 4-2) with 17 points, including five 3-pointers of his own, off the bench. One of Rostov's 3s came with 9 seconds left in the first half and gave Western Kentucky a 27-23 halftime lead. But Arkansas State went on a 13-3 run early in the second half to take the lead for good and was never seriously threatened again.
The Hilltoppers still hold a 29-13 lead in the all-time series between the teams, dating to the 1947-48 season.
