NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Kyle Vinales scored a game-high 30 points to lead Central Connecticut State past Wagner 73-66 Thursday night in a Northeast conference matchup.
After Kenneth Ortiz's 3-pointer cut the Blue Devils lead to 53-51 at the 8:02 mark, Vinales scored the next four points, sparking an 11-6 run to go up 64-57 with under 3 minutes to play.
The Blue Devils made seven free throws in the final 1:04 to seal the victory.
Central Connecticut State shot 52.2 percent (12 for 23) in the second half while holding Wagner to just 34.4 percent (11 for 32).
Ortiz finished with 18 points to lead the Seahawks (9-7, 3-2), who have not won at Central Connecticut State since 2004.
Indiana guard James Blackmon Jr., who averaged 15.8 points in 13 games before being injured last season, has withdrawn from the NBA draft.
Isaiah Briscoe has decided to withdraw from the NBA draft and will return to Kentucky for his sophomore season. Marcus Lee intends to transfer.
The Big 12/SEC Challenge will again feature Kansas and Kentucky, this time at Rupp Arena. That's not the only exciting matchup in next season's midseason conference showdown.
