HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Jerrelle Benimon scored 17 points to lead Towson to a 57-50 victory over Hofstra Saturday in Colonial Athletic Association action.
The Tigers (15-13, 10-5) led 21-19 at halftime after going scoreless for nearly seven minutes. Hofstra (6-20, 3-10) led by six points early in the second half, but Towson reasserted itself. The Tigers led 49-41 with 3:32 remaining and got their fifth win in six games.
Hofstra (6-20, 3-10) has dropped nine of its last 10.
Benimon got scoring help from Marcus Damas (11 points). Damas hit 5 of 6 from the foul line to help Towson take a decisive edge at the stripe. The Tigers hit 13 of 24 free throws. Hofstra was 8 for 11.
Towson outrebounded Hofstra 41-25, including 12 offensive boards.
