    OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Johnny Mathies and Kellen Miliner each scored 13 points Saturday to lead Creighton over San Diego 79-44.

    Joe Dabbert added 12 while Brody Deren grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds for the Bluejays.

    Tyler McKinney led Creighton (1-0) with five assists.

    Creighton used separate runs of 9-0, 8-0 and 10-0 to build a 33-8 lead with 3:20 left in the opening half. The Bluejays led 38-17 at the half.

    Brice Vounang led San Diego with 15 points, making 7-of-12 field goals and going one-for-two from the free throw line.

    Brett Melton added 10 points for San Diego (0-4) while Mike McGrain grabbed eight rebounds.

    San Diego scored just seven points on turnovers compared with 27 for Creighton.

    Creighton shot 45.8 percent overall and out-rebounded San Diego by a 38-33 margin.

    San Diego shot 34 percent and had 27 turnovers.

    An estimated crowd of 12,255, the largest home turnout in regular-season history, attended Creighton's first home game of the season, and first game at the new Qwest Center Arena.
