OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -- Sean Banks and Antonio Burks scored 18 points each and Memphis defeated Mississippi 73-62 on Saturday night.

Memphis (4-1) got a balanced effort as Rodney Carney added 14 points and Jeremy Hunt had 10. The Tigers won in Oxford for the first time since 1984 and beat the Rebels (2-3) for the second straight season.

The margin of victory was the largest in the series in the past six games.

Justin Reed led Ole Miss with 26 points while Kendrick Fox added 13 points and Aaron Harper 11.

The Rebels are off to their worst start since 1995-96, the year before the program made six consecutive postseason appearances -- including five in the NCAA tournament. That streak was snapped last season.

Trailing 7-5 after three minutes, Memphis went on a 13-0 run to take a lead it never surrendered.

Banks nailed a pair of 3-pointers and the Memphis defense blocked three layup attempts to highlight the surge.

Memphis led 32-15 at halftime, closing with a 9-0 run. Burks had eight points in the half and the Tigers were 11-for-22 from the field, including 4-for-9 from 3-point range.

Memphis dominated defensively as well, forcing seven turnovers, blocking five shots and holding the Rebels scoreless over the final six minutes of the first half.

Ole Miss drilled five consecutive 3s, including a pair by Justin Johnson and Kendrick Fox, to pull within 44-38 with 11:21 left in the game.

Memphis answered with consecutive 3-point shots by Hunt and Banks and the Rebels never got closer than nine points again.

The Tigers finished 25-of-41 from the field, including 9-of-17 from 3-point range. Memphis outrebounded the Rebels 30-21, led by Duane Erwin with 10.
