PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Brody Deren scored 15 points and had 14
rebounds before fouling out late in the game Monday night and
Creighton (No. 23 ESPN/USA Today) stayed unbeaten with a 66-49 Missouri Valley Conference win over Bradley.
Nate Funk scored 12 points and Joe Dabbert, who also fouled out
in the second half, added 11 for the Blue Jays (10-0, 2-0), who
scored the game's first nine points. Creighton led by five at the
half and then pulled away in the second half behind a strong
defense that limited the Braves to just 27 percent shooting (6 of
22). Deren fouled out with 2:48 to play and had 11 of his rebounds
in the second half .
Bradley (8-5, 1-1) shot just 30 percent for the game. Marcus
Sommerville scored 12 points and Joey Paul had 10 for Bradley,
which was beaten on the boards 42-31 in a game that drew 8,853 to
Carver Arena. The Braves played their third straight game without
leading scorer Phillip Gilbert, who is sidelined with a stress
fracture in his right foot. He is averaging 20 points per game.
Bradley had a six-game homecourt winning streak snapped.
