EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- Nate Funk scored 21 points, Kellen
Miliner added 20 and Johnny Mathies hit a pair a free throws with
eight seconds left to lift Creighton to a 74-70 victory over
Evansville on Sunday.
The Purple Aces made 29-for-65 shots in the first half, but
improved to 51.4 percent in the second half and a 41-27 edge in
rebounding overall to help Evansville pull within 68-65 with 2:19
After two Andre Burton free throws cut Evansville's deficit to
72-70 with nine seconds left, Lucious Wagner fouled Mathies on the
ensuing possession to set up the foul shots that sealed the game
Funk and Miliner were the only two players to score in double
figures for the Blue Jays (16-2, 8-2 Missouri Valley Conference).
Mathies finished with six points, going 4-of-4 from the foul line.
Clint Cuffle led four players in double figures for Evansville
(3-15, 2-8), which has lost five of its past six meetings against
Creighton made 14-of-28 shots in the first half, including
5-of-8 from 3-point range, en route to a 40-25 lead at halftime.
