MILWAUKEE (AP) -- TCU was able to accomplish what most teams can't against Marquette -- score at ease and win in the Bradley Center.

Corey Santee made six free throws in the final 31 seconds and Marcus Shropshire had 20 points, making six 3-pointers, as TCU led the entire game in beating Marquette, 85-79, Tuesday night.

The 85 points tied the most points the Golden Eagles have given up this year, and Marquette lost for only the second time in 12 games at home.

"The ball just bounced our way and went in the hole," said TCU's Nucleus Smith, who had a season-high 16 points.

Marquette (13-6, 4-4 Conference USA), coming off a road victory Saturday over No. 6 Louisville, was led by freshman Dameon Mason's 18 points and eight rebounds. The Golden Eagles, though, fell behind by 14 points early in the second half and never could catch the Horned Frogs (8-11, 4-4).

"We played awful defense," Marquette's Travis Diener said. "That's the bottom line."

Santee finished with 16 points and Aaron Curtis had a career-high 15 for TCU.

Defensively, the Horned Frogs forced Diener to miss 9-of-15 shots, scoring 17 points. In addition, Steve Novak missed 6-of-10 shots and scored 12 points.

"They create a lot of problems," TCU coach Neil Dougherty said of Diener and Novak. "We were trying to put pressure on them and not get killed by the rest of the team."

Marquette did mount a late rally, pulling within 79-77 on Scott Merritt's basket with 35 seconds to go.

Santee, who shoots 71 percent from the line, made sure the Golden Eagles would never grab the lead. He made two free throws with 31 seconds left, and Diener made two free throws with 26 seconds to go.

Santee was fouled again and made both free throws with 21 seconds left for an 83-79 lead. Mason then stepped on the baseline under the Marquette basket for a turnover and Santee hit two more free throws for the final score.

The Horned Frogs used a 12-5 run late in the second half to open a 75-66 lead on Santee's 8-foot jumper with 4:31 left.

The Golden Eagles then scored six consecutive points to get within 77-72 on Diener's three-point play with 2:44 to go. Chudi Chinweze scored on a rebound for TCU and Novak hit a 3 to pull Marquette within 79-75 with 2:02 left.

The Horned Frogs opened their biggest lead, 48-34, on Santee's 3 with 17:52 left. Marquette, which has lost four of six, then went on a 17-6 run to pull within 54-51 on Novak's baseline 3-pointer with 12:30 to go.

TCU made seven 3s in the first half, including four by Shropshire, to lead 43-33 at halftime. Diener missed seven of eight shots in the half and Novak missed all three of his shots.

    Shropshire's six 3-point shots were a career high and the Horned Frogs made a season-high 12 3-pointers.
