Akron 87, Central Michigan 66

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) -- Derrick Tarver scored 30 points to
lead Akron past Central Michigan 87-66 on Wednesday.

and pushed their lead to as many as 20 points early in the second

A 3-pointer by Central Michigan's Kevin Nelson cut the deficit
to 13 with 16:35 left in the game, but the Chippewas (4-20, 1-13)
got no closer.

The Zips had an 8-0 run, a 7-0 run and two 6-0 runs as they won
their first conference road game of the season. Romeo Travis, a
high school teammate of rookie NBA star LeBron James, scored 15
points for the Zips while Johnny Hollingsworth scored 12.

Adam Dentlinger led Central Michigan with 13 points while Gerrit
Brigitha scored 12, Nelson scored 11 and Tony Bowne scored 10.
