MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) -- Keith Triplett scored 25 points and
grabbed eight rebounds to lead Toledo past Central Michigan, 84-76
The Rockets shot 68 percent in the first half on their way to a
39-36 halftime lead before opening their lead to as many as 12
points late in the game.
The Rockets (18-9, 12-6 Mid-American) held a nine-point lead
with 8:51 left in the game when the Chippewas cut the lead to just
four points on a three-point-play by Kevin Nelson.
Toledo quickly scored five straight points and the Chippewas
(5-23, 1-16) never came closer than six points the rest of the way.
Sammy Villegas scored 16 for Toledo while Justin Ingram added 14
and A.J. Shellabarger chipped in 10. The Chippewas, who went the
final 4:34 of the first half without a field goal, shot just 39
percent for the game but kept things close by shooting 28-of-44
from the free-throw line.
The Rockets need Miami of Ohio to lose on Saturday against
Marshall in order to secure a first-round bye in the Mid-American
Conference postseason tournament.
