ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Anthony Shavies and Merrill Andrews each scored 19 points, leading Southwest Missouri State to an 84-75 victory over Creighton in a Missouri Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinal game Saturday.

Fifth-seeded Southwest Missouri (18-13) advanced to meet No. 15 Southern Illinois (25-3) in a semifinal game at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. It will mark the 11th trip to the semifinals in 14 years for the Bears, who entered the tournament losing three of its last four games. Southern Illinois, winners of the regular season championship and seeded first in the tournament, defeated Southwest Missouri twice during the season by a combined eight points.

The loss means fourth-seeded Creighton (20-8) will not defend its back-to-back tournament titles. The Bluejays, who have gone to the NCAA Tournament for the last five years, lost six of their last nine games, including a 70-46 loss at Southwest Missouri on Feb. 28.

Freshman Blake Ahern scored 14 points for the Bears while Nathan Bilyeu and Deven Mitchell each added 10 points. Southwest Missouri shot 54 percent from the floor on 31 of 57 shooting.

Nate Funk and Joe Dabbert paced the Bluejays with 17 points apiece and Mike Grimes added 13. Creighton committed 17 turnovers to just eight for Southwest Missouri. The Bears outscored the Bluejays 23-7 off turnovers.

Creighton build its largest lead at 38-33 with 17:32 left but went 4:30 without a basket as the Bears went on an 18-1 run to take the lead at 50-39. Shavies and Tommy Johnson each hit 3-pointers while Nathan Bilyeu scored a conventional three-point play to highlight the outburst in which six different Bears scored points.

Southwest's largest lead was 59-47 with 8:48 to play.

Creighton was able to cut the Bears' lead to six at 65-59 at the 5:01 mark. Mitchell scored a lay-up and then passed to Andrews for another lay-up to put the Bears back on top 69-59 with 4:27 remaining.

Southwest Missouri hit 13 of 16 free throws in the final 3:19 to ice the Bluejays. Overall, the Bears made 18 of 23 free throws.

There were three ties and four lead changes in the first half. A 3-point basket by Funk with 1 second left gave Creighton a 32-29 halftime lead.
