Toledo 91, Central Michigan 88

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Sammy Villegas scored 28 points and made two
foul shots with six seconds left to seal Toledo's 91-88 win over
Central Michigan Monday night in the first round of the
Mid-American Conference tournament.

Villegas hit 9 of 10 shots from the field, including 6-for-7 on
3-point attempts for the Rockets (19-9), who shot 62 percent from
the field (29-47).

Gerrit Brigitha scored five of his 33 points over a 43-second
span for Central Michigan (6-24) to cut the Toledo's lead to 87-86
with 36 seconds left.

After two foul shots by Ricardo Thomas for Toledo, T.J.
Meerman's basket with 11 seconds left cut the lead to one again
before Villegas' foul shots.

Brigitha made 13 of 14 shots from the field for Central
Michigan, which shot 55 percent (29-for-53).

Kevin Nelson scored 16 points and Sefton Barrett added 10 for
the Chippewas.

Thomas made all six of his field goal attempts and finished with
16 points. His jumper with 7:08 left put Toledo ahead for good,
76-75.

Keith Triplet had 17 points and Florentino Valencia added 14 for
the Rockets.

Toledo, the fourth seed, advances to the quarterfinals on
Thursday in Cleveland to play fifth-seeded Buffalo.
