SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The University of San Francisco easily outdistanced Longwood, 82-49, in the first round of the Dons' Northwest Mutual Shootout at War Memorial Gymnasium on Friday night.

USF (4-3) will play Saint Joseph's at 8 p.m. (PST) in the tournament finale on Saturday. The Hawks (3-2) won their first round game earlier Friday, 84-56 over UC Davis (2-4). Longwood (0-10) will play the Aggies in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m.

The Lancers, currently an independent, are in the second year of a four-year transition to Division I and have just one junior and 14 underclassmen on the roster. The Farmville, Va., school provided little competition for the Dons, who quickly turned the game into a showcase of steals, fast-breaks and dunks.

After Longwood scored the first four points of the night, the Dons in the first 20 minutes reeled off runs of 15-0, 7-0 and 9-0, the last closing out the half with USF up 45-17.

The Dons' biggest lead was 61-21 five minutes into the second half. John Cox led four USF scorers in double figures, finishing with 15 points after hitting six of nine shots from the floor.

Jason Carter and Tyrone Riley added 11 each, while Johnny Dukes finished with 10. The Lancers were led by Leland Beale, who went 4-for-8 from the floor.

Longwood's top two scorers coming in, Michael Jefferson and Lamar Barrett, shot a combined 4-for-22 against the Dons. Longwood, which later this season will play at Illinois, Cincinnati and Wake Forest, is the first NCAA team to post 10 losses this year, losing its games by an average of 15.9 points.
