MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -- Glen McGowan scored 27 points and had
eight rebounds to lead Pepperdine over San Francisco 64-57 on
San Francisco's John Cox finished with a game-high 28 points but
no other players for either side reached double figures.
After a close first half that saw six lead changes, Pepperdine
(12-5, 2-0) went ahead at the break 27-26. The Waves then went on
an 11-2 run over the first three minutes of the second half and the
team never lost the lead again.
San Francisco (9-6, 0-2) answered with an 11-2 run of its own,
capped by a Johnny Dukes dunk with 11:25 left to make it a
one-point game again at 40-39. But Pepperdine came right back with
yet another run -- a 12-5 spurt -- to make it 52-44 with 6:12
remaining, and the closest San Francisco could cut it to was three
Pepperdine improved to 7-0 at home for the first time since the
1985-86 season, when the Waves began the year 15-0 at home.
