    FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) -- D.J. Thompson scored 15 points and hit five of Appalachian State's 14 3-pointers Monday night as the Mountaineers won for the first time in nine road games and handed Longwood its 11th consecutive loss, 89-59.

    The Mountaineers (9-9) shot better than 55 percent overall, including 14-for-25 on 3-pointers. They also got 14 points from Herbert Jones, 12 from Nathan Cranford, 11 from Noah Brown and 10 from Courtney Polk. Eleven Appalachian States players scored.

    Longwood (1-22), which also started the season with 11 straight losses before beating Howard, was led by Michael Jefferson with 20 points and Lamas Barrett with 13.

    The Lancers trailed 11-2 after less than 2 minutes and 45-29 by halftime. They shot just 34 percent, missed 10 of 24 free throws and 17 of 18 3-point attempts.
