LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Kevin Fleming scored 15 points to help
lead San Jose State past Portland 82-53 Friday in the consolation

Despite having eight team fouls in the first seven minutes of
the second half, San Jose State (1-1) managed to build a 29-point
lead after being up by 14 at halftime. Portland (0-2) shot under 40
percent from the field, although the team was 42 percent from
behind the 3-point line.

Menelik Barbary scored 12 points while grabbing 13 rebounds for
his first double-double as a Spartan.

Portland kept close in the first half but then allowed the
Spartans to take a 15-point lead, thanks in part to a 18-5 run
before the 3 minute mark.

Pooh Jeter finished with 13 points in the effort for the Pilots
along with Kevin Field, who had a double-double with 10 points and
10 rebounds.

The win is San Jose State coach George Nessman's first Division
