BOSTON (AP) -- Jose Juan Barea scored 23 points and had seven
assists as Northeastern beat Lasell 105-57 on Tuesday night.
Barea either scored or assisted on the Huskies' first 16 points
as they jumped to a 16-2 lead over the Division III Lasers.
The Huskies forced 23 turnovers and held the Lasers (2-1) to
less than 30 percent shooting to open the season 3-0 for the first
time since the 1984-85 season, when Reggie Lewis played for the
team coached by Jim Calhoun.
Lasell made a run late in the first half, trimming a 26-point
deficit to 13 at 46-33, but Northeastern responded by scoring the
last 14 points of the half to open a 60-33 halftime lead.
The Huskies led by as many as 53 in the second half.
Northeastern used a balanced attack in its home opener with six
players scoring in double figures. Bennet Davis had 13, Janon Cole,
Adrian Martinez and Aaron Davis each had 12, while Bobby Kelly had
Lasell was led by Brad Carvoulias with 14 points, including four
3-pointers, and Jose Guitian with 10.
