BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) -- Bobby Kelly scored a career-high 23 points to lead five Northeastern players in double figures in a 102-81 win over Cal State Northridge in the opening round of the Golden Bear Classic on Friday.

Jose Juan Barea added 19 points, nine assists and four rebounds for the Huskies, who are 4-0 for the first time since 1980-81, when then-coach Jim Calhoun guided the team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Shawn James had 14 points and three blocked shots, tying Reggie Lewis as the school's career leader in blocks.

Northeastern, which set a tournament record for points scored, will play the winner of the California-Northern Colorado game in the Golden Bear Classic title game on Saturday.

Mike Efevberha scored 23 points for Northridge (2-1), which opened the season with wins over USC and Tulsa before getting blown out by the Huskies. Since moving to Division I in 1990-91, the Matadors have never started a season 3-0.

Efevberha, a transfer from Orange Coast College, became the first player in Northridge history to begin his career with three straight 20-point games. Thomas Shewmake had 13 points and 16 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, fifth of his career.

Northeastern led 46-39 at halftime then pulled away from Northridge early in the second half behind the shooting of Kelly and James, who scored 10 points during an 11-4 run that put the Matadors comfortably ahead.

Dunks by James and Janon Cole (14 points, eight rebounds) pushed Northeastern's lead to 84-61 with just over seven minutes remaining, and the Matadors coasted home from there.

Northeastern took advantage of 15 Northridge turnovers to build a 46-39 halftime lead. Kelly had 13 points and three rebounds for the Huskies, who shot 44.7 percent from the floor in the first half.
