STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma State didn't take long to overcome a tough loss.

After letting a 13-point second-half lead slip away on Saturday to Boston College, the Cowboys responded with a convincing 80-62 win over Nevada-Las Vegas Wednesday.

Torre Johnson scored a career-high 17 points to lead Oklahoma State, and JamesOn Curry added 16.

"It was important to come back tonight and win, and try to win in a very classy manner and try to regain some confidence," Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton said. "I thought we played pretty well.

"UNLV is a good team and will win a lot of ball games."

Oklahoma State (5-1) opened the second half with a 13-4 run that Curry capped with back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Cowboys a 56-35 lead.

The Runnin' Rebels (2-2) closed to within 64-55 on Gaston Essengue's layup with 8:53 left, but Byron Eaton sparked a run of six straight points for Oklahoma State to help seal the game.

Eaton said the Cowboys increased the intensity when the score got close.

"We almost slipped again like we did in the loss to Boston College, but we came back and we fought," Eaton said. "In the last five minutes, we put the game away. Coach Sutton just told us good job and get ready to work tomorrow."

Curry struggled to find his shooting touch and was held without a field goal until he hit a 3-pointer with 6:11 to play in the first half that gave Oklahoma State a 28-20 lead.

He followed that with a fast-break layup and then floated a pass to a streaking Mario Boggan, who scored and was fouled. Boggan converted the free throw, stretching the margin to 36-26.

Eaton followed Boggan's three-point play with one of his own, scoring a bucket inside and drawing a foul. His free throw gave the Cowboys their biggest lead of the half at 39-26.

The Cowboys led 43-31 at halftime.

Eaton scored 13 points for Oklahoma State and Boggan and David Monds each added 11 in the victory.

Louis Amundson scored 25 and Jason Petrimoulx scored 12 for UNLV, which committed turnovers on each of its first three possessions and fell behind 9-2.

UNLV rallied back with a 10-2 run and took a 12-11 lead on Michael Umeh's 3-pointer.

On Oklahoma State's next possession, Johnson scored off of Eaton's miss and the Cowboys led the rest of the way.

Both teams shot well from the field. Oklahoma State made 30 of 58 field goal attempts and UNLV was 23-for-41.

The Rebels also committed 27 turnovers.
