George Mason 79, Hampton 66

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) -- Lamar Butler and Jai Lewis each scored 18
points and George Mason overcame poor free throw shooting to beat
Hampton 79-66 Wednesday night.

Butler hit four 3-pointers to lead five players in double
figures for George Mason (6-3), which won for the fifth time in six
games. The Patriots, who entered the game making just 61 percent of
their free throw attempts, missed nine of their first 10 from the
line and finished 23-of-45 on the night.

Rodrick Coleman scored 20 points and Jaz Cowan added 17 for the
Pirates (1-6), who remained winless on the road.

The Patriots led 27-25 at halftime but used full-court pressure
to pull away in the second half, when Hampton committed nine of its
14 turnovers.

The Pirates pulled to 48-46 on a 3-pointer by Coleman with 8:38
remaining but George Mason's smaller, quicker lineup helped the
Patriots pull away with a number of easy baskets.
