NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Shan Foster scored 12 points and
Vanderbilt withstood a late rally to beat IUPUI 53-45 Thursday
Julian Terrell had eight points and 12 rebounds for Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt looked to have the game in control, leading 50-37
with under three minutes to play, but IUPUI scored eight straight
points to pull within 50-45 with 57 seconds left. Foster then hit a
3-pointer with the shot clock winding down to push Vanderbilt's
lead back to eight with 22 seconds remaining.
The Commodores attempted a season-high 29 3-point attempts,
making eight, against an IUPUI zone that defended the interior and
allowed Vanderbilt to shoot from the outside. The Commodores shot a
season-low 38 percent from the field. At the other end, IUPUI was
held to 37 percent shooting and a season-low in points.
Vanderbilt controlled the boards 42-27.
IUPUI built an early 13-5 lead by holding Vanderbilt scoreless
for over six minutes in the first half. The Commodores answered
with a 10-0 run, then later closed the first half on a 7-0 run to
emerge with a 29-22 lead. Dan Cage hit a runner in the lane as time
expired in the first half.
