MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) -- Two-time NCAA rebounding champion Paul
Millsap collected 21 points, 15 rebounds, four blocked shots and a
pair of steals Saturday to lead Louisiana Tech to a 66-61 Western
Athletic Conference victory over Idaho.
Marcus Elliott added 16 points for the Bulldogs, who have won
five of their last seven games to stand 9-6 overall and 2-0 in WAC
play. Idaho, which lost its third straight, drops to 3-9 and 0-2.
Eleven of Millsap's rebounds were on offense and he turned
several into easy points, going 9-for-12 from the field. He had
nine points and seven rebounds -- five offensive -- in the first
half, helping Louisiana Tech take a 32-24 lead into intermission.
The Vandals closed the gap to four points with a 6-2 spurt to
open the second half. Idaho leading scorer Tanoris Shepard, held
scoreless in the first half, poured in five straight points to cut
the deficit to 39-37 at the 16:07 mark.
The Vandals tied the score at 45-all on an Igor Vrzina hook shot
with 10:36 to play, and they took their first lead on a driving
assist from Keoni Watson to Desmond Nwoke that put them ahead 49-47
with 8:12 to go.
The Bulldogs answered with a 3-pointer from Michael Wilds, and
they never trailed again, though Idaho had a chance to tie when
Watson's 3-pointer from the top of the arc fell short with 40
Louisiana Tech sealed the victory by hitting 7 of 8 free throws
over the final 36 seconds.
Shepard led the Vandals with 11 points on 5-for-13 shooting
after posting 25 points in a 62-52 loss to New Mexico State on
Thursday. Idaho also received 10 points, 10 rebounds and six
assists from Watson, and Mike Kale and David Dubois chipped in 10
